This is my present to any Google searcher out there looking for methods to grind flax seed. You’ve read how nutritious it is so yes, you’d like to add it painlessly to your foods. Yes, you’ve found and bought a bag of it.
But you don’t have a way to grind it. And it has to be ground to unlock the nutrition.
Like me, you’ve priced flax seed grinders and cringe. Do you really want to (and have enough money to) pay that price just for a flax seed grinder? And then store it? So you try using your mortar and pestle – but that doesn’t really work. Someone tells you can use a coffee grinder, but yours is an old one from a yard sale – used only for decoration with a grinding mechanism much too dirty to actually use for food you plan to consume. So you put the bag of seeds in the back of the frig and the idea in your “perhaps in the future” mental file. It’s such a shame…

Well, here’s the news: you can grind flax seed in your regular old blender! Yes, the one right there in your cabinet. Thank you, Sue Becker, for mentioning that in your recipe. It works well!
So there you have it. Use the blender (preferably the one on your wonderful Bosche mixer) to easily grind up the flax seed without any additional appliance. Wish I had known this a year ago…
